Resources and toolkits from The Wild Escape

Family Day: Animal Adventures, at the British Library on Saturday 22 April, 2023.

The Wild Escape, a UK-wide project, inspired young people to find creatures in art and natural history collections and imagine the creature escaping from the museum to a new Wild World.

All resources are free to use and have been drawn from existing materials created by museums, arts organisations and learning professionals. We’re grateful to everyone who has contributed to these resources and allowed them to be shared.

The Wild Escape was made possible by lead support from Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, with additional support from Art Fund, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Kusuma Trust, Foyle Foundation and a group of generous individuals and trusts.

Nature in collections

The Wild Escape inspired young people to imagine creatures they found in paintings, mosaics and natural history collections escaping from museums, galleries and historic houses across the UK. Looking for nature is a wonderful way to follow curious minds and adventurous young people around any collection, and to think about how we can protect nature with creative action.

Tara Boland created a trail for families to seek out the forgotten creatures hiding in every nook and cranny. Visitors can pop on some headphones and listen to narrator Konnie Huq inspire their families to find nature hiding in your collection.
